No advertising. No selling data. Analytics cookies, with an opt-out.

This is a personal site. It runs no advertising, sells nothing and shares nothing with advertisers. The only measurement is Google Analytics, fed through Cloudflare rather than by a Google script in your browser, and it can be switched off from the notice in the corner or on this page. This page covers exactly what happens when you visit.

What this site collects

No names, email addresses or accounts. There is no advertising, no embedded social widgets and no third-party fonts. The only script beyond the site's own is a small Cloudflare loader for the analytics described next. No Google code runs in your browser.

Google Analytics

The site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read, how visitors arrive and what devices they use. It is fed through Cloudflare Zaraz: your browser sends each page view to Cloudflare, which passes it to Google from its own servers. No Google script is loaded and Google never sees a request from your browser. Two first-party cookies are set, each lasting a year: wh-zaraz-consent holds your choice, and cf_zaraz_client holds a random identifier so repeat visits from the same browser can be recognised. Google processes the data on my behalf under its privacy policy. Google Signals, audiences and ad personalisation are switched off, so nothing is joined to a Google account or used to target advertising.

Opting out: the notice in the corner has an Opt out button, and the button below does the same. Opting out stops every page view and event at once, including anonymous ones, so nothing further about your visit reaches Cloudflare or Google. The identifier cookie is left in place until it expires because the browser does not let the page remove it, but nothing is sent with it.

Your choice is kept in this browser's local storage and can be changed at any time.

Hosting logs

The site is served by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel keeps standard server logs for a short time to run and secure the service. Those can include your IP address and the page requested. I don't use them to identify or track anyone.

Settings stored in your browser

If you change anything in the accessibility panel, such as text size or light mode, the choice is saved in your browser's local storage so it applies on your next visit. Your answer to the cookie notice is stored the same way. Both stay on your device and are never sent anywhere. Clear your browser data and they're gone.

The game leaderboards

If you finish a round of one of the games and choose to add your name, that name is stored with your score, the number of hits and the date, and shown publicly on the board. Use any name you like; nothing links it to you. Nothing is stored if you skip the board. Starting and scoring a round uses no cookies: the round travels in a signed token in your browser's memory and is forgotten when you leave. To have an entry removed, email me with the name and date.

The weekly crossword also lets you add a LinkedIn profile link, only if you tick a box agreeing that I can congratulate you on LinkedIn and tag that profile if you top that week's board. The link is never shown on the site, is used for nothing else, and is deleted automatically after about two months. Leave it empty and nothing beyond your name and score is kept.

Email

If you email me, I'll see whatever you send, including your address, and I'll keep it only as long as the conversation needs. I don't add anyone to lists.

Links to other sites

Links to GitHub, LinkedIn, X, the Chrome Web Store and others take you to sites with their own privacy practices, which I don't control.
